Most of our members walked in having never trained a day in their life.
You don't need to be fit, flexible, young, or tough to start Brazilian jiu-jitsu. You don't need any experience at all. You just need to show up — we'll handle the rest, and your first class is completely free.
BJJ is the most beginner-friendly martial art there is: you learn by doing it slowly, with a partner, under a coach who's watching. Here's exactly what to expect so nothing feels like a surprise.
WHAT'S HOLDING YOU BACK
“I’m not in shape enough.”
Nobody is, on day one — that's what training is for. You set your own pace, you can tap any time, and you'll be in better shape within weeks without ever doing a single dreaded burpee for its own sake.
“I’ll get hurt.”
Beginner classes are technique-first and controlled. You're paired with people who know how to train safely, and tapping out early and often is normal and encouraged. Our coaches watch the room closely.
“Everyone there is tougher than me.”
Every black belt in the building was once a nervous white belt on their first day. This is a friendly room — people want you to come back, and they'll help you get better.
YOUR FIRST CLASS
Athletic clothes — shorts and a t-shirt are perfect for your first class. Don't have a gi? We have loaner gis you can borrow.
Show up 10–15 minutes early so you can meet the coach, fill out a quick waiver, and get changed without rushing.
Warm-up, then the coach teaches a technique and walks you through it step by step. You'll drill it with a partner at an easy pace. You are never thrown into hard sparring on day one.
Probably a little lost — that's completely normal and it passes fast. Give it a handful of classes before you decide. Almost everyone is hooked by week two.
WHICH CLASS DO I GO TO?
Intro to BJJ
FRIDAY · 6:30 PM
A 60-minute class built specifically for new students. If you only do one class to start, do this one — it's the gentlest possible on-ramp.
Honestly? Every class is open to beginners— the instructor will walk you through whatever's being taught, even the ones marked Advanced. But if you want the most natural starting point, the Standard classes are it.
GOOD CLASSES TO START WITH
